The Executive Chairman, Imota Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Benson Sunday Ayodele, has called on residents of his council to embrace tree planting to ensure greener and safer Imota.
Hon. Benson Sunday Ayodele gave the charge in a statement commemorating the 2026 Tree Plating Day.
This year’s edition is themed, “Trees for Lagos: Our City, Our Responsibility”

”As we commemorate the 2026 Tree Planting Day, I call on all residents of Imota Local Council Development Area to embrace tree planting and environmental conservation as shared responsibilities that are essential to building a healthier, safer, and more sustainable community.
”This year’s theme, ‘Trees for Lagos: Our City, Our Responsibility’, underscores the importance of collective action in protecting our environment. It reminds us that every resident has a role to play in creating a greener, cleaner, and more resilient Lagos through the planting and preservation of trees.”
The council chairman stressed the importance of tree planting in the society while calling for residents’ support for the initiative.

”Trees play a vital role in mitigating the effects of climate change, improving air quality, preventing soil erosion, conserving biodiversity, and enhancing the beauty of our surroundings.
”I therefore encourage residents, schools, Community Development Associations (CDAs), faith-based institutions, and corporate organisations to cultivate the habit of planting and nurturing trees for the benefit of both present and future generations.
”I also urge everyone to support and sustain initiatives that promote a cleaner and greener environment. Let us protect existing trees, discourage indiscriminate felling, and actively collaborate with government at all levels in safeguarding our natural environment.”

Hon. Benson Ayodele assured of his administration’s commitment to the preservation of the environment.
”As an administration, we remain steadfast in our commitment to environmental sustainability under the vision of #ForAGreaterImotaLCDA. Together, we can preserve our environment, strengthen our communities, and leave a lasting legacy of a greener Imota for generations to come.”
